The Calgary Flames are in desperate need of a coach and are reportedly interested in former Buffalo Sabres head coach Dave Tippett, according to ESPN’s Craig Custance.
Tippett was in Calgary on Monday and was reportedly on the team’s radar.
Tristan and his wife, Jennifer, bought a home in the Calgary area and they have been a popular presence on the hockey team, but the team has also had to deal with other distractions this season.
A source told Custance that Tippetts involvement could be a factor in the Flames interest.
Tippets contract is reportedly for two more seasons, which would make him the longest-tenured coach in the NHL.
The former Sabres coach was the head coach of the San Jose Sharks during the 2012-13 season and was fired in December of that year following the team finishing in the bottom half of the league standings.
The 27-year-old Tippet has a reputation as a defensive-minded coach and has led the team to a playoff berth in his first two seasons.
Tipping the scales at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, Tippettes record is 6-10-2.
